Start Your Engines!

Northern Wisconsin knows a thing-or-two about snowmobiling. The first “snow toboggan” was invented, in 1924, by Earl Eliason in Sayner, Wisconsin.

Once enough of deep, glorious, and powdery Wisconsin white has accumulated, you won’t be able to escape the repeating *braaap, braaap, braaap* sounds on trails for miles and miles.

Ahhhh, sweet music to every sledder’s ears.

The right time to make sure your registration and permits are in order, sleds are tuned up, and your gear is ready is before the first snowfall. Baby, it’s cold outside, so make sure any damage to your equipment is repaired or replaced.

Safety 101

Whether new to the sport, or a veteran, taking an online snowmobile safety course to keep you and other riders safe is recommended.

Snowmobiling in Wisconsin is a blast, but accidents and injuries occur annually, and some are fatal. You’ll be one step ahead of the curve with a safety course under your belt and knowing the Wisconsin snowmobile laws. Heck, even experienced riders can benefit from a refresher.

Note: Just like driving a car, you CAN get speeding tickets and DWI’s while on the trail. These avoidable tickets will affect your driving record in the same way as a car or truck. So proceed with wise caution.

Okay, now that we’ve covered safety, let’s get back on the trail!

Let’s Ride!

If you’re wondering where to take or rent a snowmobile in Wisconsin? Look no further. You’ll find great rentals to enjoy the expansive and scenic trails in Trego, Webb Lake, Spooner, Hayward, Cable, and Danbury.

No matter which adventure you choose (snowmobile, ski, snowshoe, dog walking, etc.), be sure to check trail conditions before heading out. Nothing is more frustrating than planning your route than coming across a “Trail Closed” sign.

Many say there’s no better snowmobiling outside the boundaries of Northern Wisconsin. Of course, Michigan and Minnesota might take umbrage with that statement, but we don’t care. That’s another blog, for another site.

Other Fun Stuff

Don’t fret about finicky family or friends who don’t enjoy snowmobiling (crazy, right?).

When covered in snow, Wisconsin offers loads of fun activities to do in the winter months. The Minocqua area is said to look like a Christmas card. This area is very popular and offers tons of fun stuff to do and great places to eat, drink, and be merry.

Those of us with pets will benefit from ample trails, parks, and accommodations. Be sure to check the pet policy at your destination before showing up with your pet. And take into consideration how long you’ll be away from them while snowmobiling.

Bon Appetit!

Jula Child says, “People who love to eat are always the best people.” Northern Wisconsin has everything from excellent local beers to pair with classic pickled eggs and turkey gizzards to fine dining and supper clubs.

Pro Tip: You don’t have to relegate all your meals to your cabin, bar, or restaurant. Why? Because you can COOK WITH YOUR THROTTLE! Yes, you heard that right. And you don’t have to build a fire or use a portable grill painstakingly.

Well-seasoned sledders know how to enjoy a hot meal with a Muff Pot.

This stainless steel appliance attaches to your snowmobile muffler, and that heat is used to warm up, or cook, a meal while on the trail. The sky’s the limit, but here’s are a few popular dishes you can enjoy:

  • Meatballs & Cocktail Weenies
  • Soup & Stew
  • Mac & Cheese
  • Hot Dogs, Sausages & Brats
  • Grilled Cheese
  • Bacon, Eggs & Potato Hash
  • Caramelized Apples

Say Cheeeeeeese!

Before we zip back on the trail, let’s talk cheese! Wisconsin is the leading cheese producer in America. Be SURE to buy and pack some award-winning cheese curds. Whether you love squeaky, creamy, yellow, white, plain, or flavored curds, Wisconsin has a perfect curd for you.

You can hardly throw a snowball without hitting a cheese shop, so be adventurous and try one or more different types of Wisconsin cheese.
